Case Study: Rebuild of Site – Brenley Corner Consolidation
September 5, 2024 9:52 amBrenley Corner underwent a significant rebuild, led by Build manager Nicole Clarke with Team Leader Gav Walding. The challenge was to completely overhaul the existing site infrastructure while keeping it operational throughout the entire process. The objective was to install new equipment, replace an aging walk-in cabinet, and erect a new Phosco pole, all without interrupting the site’s existing services.
One of the early challenges the team faced during this build was the site’s location constraints, as it was situated just off a motorway slip road. Gaining access to the site while avoiding traffic disruption was paramount, requiring careful planning to manoeuvrer equipment and personnel. Additionally, we had to ensure service continuity while removing and replacing old infrastructure without interrupting any live services already on-site.
The team implemented a carefully staged equipment installation process, beginning with the construction of a new base outside the existing structure. Temporary feeder systems were used to keep the site live, allowing for the seamless relocation of FPF/RF modules without service interruption. To minimize motorway traffic disruption, a rolling roadblock was employed during the installation of the crane and Phosco pole, avoiding the need for extensive traffic management.
The site remained live throughout the entire rebuild process, achieving the primary goal of zero downtime while seamlessly transitioning to the upgraded infrastructure. This careful planning also reduced the impact on the surrounding area, ensuring minimal disruption during the project.
Strategic planning and phased execution were key to the project’s success, allowing for continuous operation and a smooth transition. The collaborative effort and expertise of the team, including Nicole Clarke, Gav Walding, and the Nokia engineers, were crucial in managing the complex logistics and technical requirements of the rebuild.
